Title Sequence Analysis - Skyfall.

Title sequence Analysis
Skyfall

(Cinematography, editing, mis-en-scene, sound illustrated with screen)

In the beginning of the ‘Skyfall’ trailer, a well-dressed man in a suit falls into water shown by a low angle shot looking up towards the man. The long shot shows the man falling deeper into the sea and closes in on a medium shot to pay more attention to the man’s face, then slowly fades to black. The scene then fades in to a close up of the man’s hand being grasped by another person pulling him further down to the depths. The shot then changes to a long shot and of a giant hand pulling the man further down by his feet. Then is a high angle extreme long shot showing the man being pulled into a hole at the bottom of the ocean, and the main title of the film is shown.

The trailer then fades to black and shows targets of the man floating around in the ocean with blood coming from a target which gets closer to the camera implying the man must’ve been shot, then eventually the camera goes through the bullet hole and shows the clear ocean.

From this, there is a downwards tilt of the camera of a woman’s body from her hair to her feet, when the camera reaches her feet, a gun drops to the sea floor, possibly meaning the woman is dangerous. The scene then fades to black and fades back in to show a what looks like a cemetery but the tombstones are actually knives and guns, the camera moves forward and closes in on a tombstone, blacking the camera out as it continues to move forward.

The surroundings are red implying blood and infront of the camera comes a building that eventually blacks the camera out again showing a paper-like rip with the camera showing an extra close up shot of the mans eyes through the tear. The camera slowly zooms in onto the mans eye and the darkness from the mans pupil fades to the man in a building shooting his shadow, from this scene I can gather that the film will be a thriller.

The camera then goes through another bullet hole and returns to the ocean, only this time with blood surrounding the camera, implying the movie will be featuring blood. Straight in front of the camera is a cluster of blood that eventually forms into a skull shape.  The camera then moves forward and goes through the skull fading to black again. When the camera fades out from black the woman appears again but pointing a gun directly into the lens of the camera, confirming the woman actually is dangerous. The camera then zooms into the end of the gun and slowly moves through it and reveals the same targets as earlier only this time they are all on fire and rising upwards passing the camera.

Then multiple types of flames and fire are shown before the colours revert to black and white. As the camera moves forward multiple things that have occurred before in the trailer return such as guns and skulls. Another black skull appears facing directly towards the camera, then the camera moves through the skulls mouth and a black tombstone is shown, the camera then zooms into the tombstone and the scene fades to black again.

The camera then shows a high angle pointing towards a mans feet, the man is dressed very formally meaning he is either of importance or dressing for an occasion. The camera then tilts upwards and shows the man walking in multiple mirrors having the effect that he is everywhere. The camera zooms into one reflection of the man and it appears that the man has a bullet wound, then the man slowly raises a gun to the mirror and shoots it. This has the effect that the camera is actually the man himself. And the mirrors all smash.

The camera then once more enters a bullet hole and inside is what appears to be the same cemetery and building made of blood as before, the scene from earlier in the trailer is repeated by the camera slowly zooming in on the mans eye, the scene then fades to black as the camera enters the mans pupil once again, which concludes the title analysis.
