Film idea
17
year old Ellie is planning a shopping trip with her friends. There will be a
shot of a group chat where the girls are arranging things. Elliptical editing
will be used to show her getting ready throughout the morning. However, as
she’s getting ready she begins to get sharp pains in her head that force her to
stop what she is doing. During the head pains, there will be cutaways of a car speeding
on a road and then car crash noises (as if she is seeing an accident that has
not yet happened). She pushes these images away and leaves her house, meeting
up with a friend as they make their way to the bus stop. She sees a car in the
distance which causes another sharp head pain and she sees herself getting hit
by the car. The overwhelming image of her getting hit and the pain in her head
causes her to stagger and fall into the road where she is actually hit by the
car. A close up shot of her face fades to black as the noise of a beeping car
horn fades into the beep of a hospital machine (the fade to black transitions
into the next scene).
As
she is waking up she sees her parents and her little brother stood around her
bed, they are all blurry as the camera angle will give the impression that we
are seeing things through her eyes. After her parents realise she has woken up
her mum leans in to hug her. This is when Ellie gets another pain in her head
and sees her mum falling down the stairs (a cut away shot would be used).
Suddenly
she realises what’s wrong with her – she can see things happening before they
do. She tries to tell her mum but she’s drowsy and can’t speak properly so her
mum shushes her and strokes her hair until she falls to sleep. The camera pans
away from her face to the hospital door in order to signal a scene change.
When
she wakes up it is night time. To signal this to the audience a shot of a
digital clock reading 1:00am will be the first scene of the shot. The hospital
room she’s in will be dimly lit. When she wakes up she sees her dad (who has
been crying) and her little brother who is stood in silence with a pale
face. Her dad begins speaking “it’s your
mum…she fell…and…”, Ellie already knows as she saw the image in her head so replies
“she’s dead.” At first her dad will be confused and unwilling to understand.
That is until Ellie has a final pain in her head and sees her little brother
getting kidnapped. She desperately tries to warn her father who is sceptical.
The
man who could possibly kidnap her little brother walks past her hospital room
and glances through the window. He is dressed shadily in dark clothes and when
he notices Ellie and her little brother his eyes stare unblinkingly as he
passes the window. In that moment her dad realises that Ellie is telling the
truth. The scene ends with a close of his shocked face and Ellie’s voice in the
background saying “I told you dad.”
The
final scene is a long shot of Ellie and her little brother sat at the kitchen
table. Their dad brings the dinner he cooked to the table but it’s burnt and
inedible. A close up shot will be used to show the audience the state of the
food and then it will cut back to a long shot of the family staring down at
their dinner plates. The camera will pan right to reveal and empty chair where
their mother should be. Then the scene will fade to black.
