Sound is a very important aspect in movies, as different music produces different moods in films. For example in thriller films would typically be jumpy and scary music, depending on the sub genre of the thriller. For example crime thrillers would contain jumpy and fast pace non diegetic music. Usually in thriller films, music starts off at a slower pace and as the film goes on the music pace is much faster which creates suspense and tells the audience when a scary/jumpy occurrence will happen, in other words it builds a climax to when the threat occurs. A popular choice of sound effects are high pitches screeches. For example the film 'Psycho' from 1960 includes this sound effect that creates tension in the scene where the woman is in the shower before she is attacked. Sounds in thriller films are used to make the audience feel scared and intimidated.
