Film Poster Analysis- I am legend.

Firstly, the mise en scene of the poster as a whole indicates a numerous amount of things. For example, we can immediately identify that this film is set in New York, due to the Empire State building being seen in the background. This is important as New York is a well known, and very populated city, home to a large number of civilians. The 'hazchem' sign (a warning plate system used in Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom for vehicles transporting hazardous substances, and also on storage facilities) portrays danger to the audience and due to its appearance numerous times on the poster, it is indefinite that something dangerous could have happened in order for these signs to be up.

Within the poster, hints that the city has been abandoned are clear. There are wild plants growing within the middle of the road and also cars overturned. Another way in which audiences may believe that the city has been abandoned is the wild animals roaming around the streets; something that would not happen within New York today.

The positioning of the protagonist on the poster is clear to the demographic as he is located on the right hand side of the poster. Despite him not being placed in the centre as most protagonists would be, he is the largest subject on the poster enhancing his importance. Another way in which audiences are able to understand who the protagonist is, is how his name is the only one used on the poster. It is presented in a large type in the colour white in order to create a contrast with the background, again showing its importance.

The white typography used throughout the poster is used as it stands out in comparison to the background. This is used on the title of the film in order to draw attention to it from the viewers. Below the title is the tagline 'The last man on earth is not alone'. This tagline confirms that Will Smith's character is the protagonist in this film however also creates tension as it is confirmed that he is 'not alone'. This creates tension as audiences do not know who else or what else he could be with on earth, making them want to view the film even more.

On the bottom half of the poster it confirms that the film is 'coming soon' but nothing else. This indicates that it is a teaser poster however creatively makes viewers more interested as  they want to find out more.
